From October 2024 to March 2025, ChatGPT attracted an average of 41.3 million monthly active users—a massive jump from just 11.2 million in the previous six months.

That’s nearly four times the amount!

This info comes from OpenAI’s transparency filing under the EU’s Digital Services Act, which tracks how many unique users engage with the service monthly. ChatGPT is nearly hitting the 45 million mark, which would classify it as a “very large online platform” and bring about some serious regulations.

Of course, it still has a long way to go to rival Google, which boasts 355.7 million signed-in users and 424.4 million signed-out users monthly in the EU. So, Google is still way ahead.

About 20 times larger!

However, this spike in Chatgpt usage shows that people are leaning into AI-powered tools beyond traditional keyword searches. For brands and marketers, this shift is a big deal.

It’s becoming super important to understand how content is being surfaced and optimised in these new AI-friendly environments, just as much as it is to rank on Google.
