Some interesting news about Google AI Overviews and how they affect click-through rates (CTR)!
Some studies have shown significant drops in CTR, especially for non-branded searches. For instance, Ahrefs found a 34.5% decline in CTR for top organic results when AI Overviews were present. Amsive had a slightly lower, but still notable, 15.49% drop overall.
What’s especially surprising is that non-branded queries saw around a 20% decrease, and pages outside the top three rankings are feeling the heat with a 27% decline. On the flip side, branded searches are less impacted. When AI Overviews show up, CTR increases by about 19%.
While these AI features might boost click quality, they distract attention from regular search results. It’s a good reminder for anyone in SEO to stay on their toes and adapt to these changes!
