Google’s AI Overviews have changed after the March 2025 core update. The overlap between these AI summaries and the top 10 organic search results has decreased.

It went from 16% to 15%!

That means those AI-generated summaries are less likely to reference the highest-ranked pages.

Interestingly, some industries, like travel, entertainment, and dining, see more citations for regular search results in these AI Overviews. It’s a double-edged sword: while this gives lower-ranked pages a chance to get more visibility, it also makes things a bit tougher for SEO pros trying to track and optimise this new AI content.
