Shopify is overhauling its checkout system, which means it’s time for an upgrade in how you manage your Google tags. If you’re using Google Ads or Analytics, let’s dive into what this means!

What’s on the Horizon?

Shopify is transitioning away from older methods like checkout.liquid and “additional scripts” for adding Google tags. Instead, they’re introducing a sleek, user-friendly solution with the Google & YouTube app! This app has been crafted by Google specifically for Shopify to enhance your experience.

Important Deadlines to Remember

– For Shopify Plus Merchants: Be sure to migrate by August 28, 2025.

– For Non-Plus Merchants: Make the switch by August 26, 2026.

Missing these deadlines could mean losing critical conversion tracking on your Thank You and Order Status pages, so let’s stay ahead!

Why Should You Embrace This Change?

– Seamless Integration: The Google & YouTube app is a no-code solution that connects effortlessly with Google Ads, Analytics, YouTube, and Merchant Centre—making your life much easier!

– Future-Ready: This app is built to evolve alongside Shopify’s checkout system, ensuring you’ll always be at the forefront of innovation.

– Enhanced Features: Unlocking powerful tools like Enhanced Conversions and Customer Match with just a few clicks. Exciting, right?

Key Points to Keep in Mind

– Google Tag Manager: This new app doesn’t support GTM. You must transition your tags from GTM containers for full compatibility.

– Custom Pixels: While you might use them, their reliability can be uncertain. Google won’t be able to guarantee its performance.

– Analytics Tags: If you missed updating your Analytics tags before February 2, please note that they may have been converted to custom pixels, potentially affecting your data accuracy.
